On a recent Sunday evening, my youth group piled into another church in our community and enjoyed conversation, fellowship, and an amazing concert by Skye Peterson.
My youth director told us that it was going to be a pretty laid back night. A time when we would hang with other teenagers, might get to meet Skye, maybe get a CD signed by her before she got so famous she wouldn’t have time to sing for us kids. 😉
(Note: If you see a semi-famous person in the bathroom, SAY SOMETHING TO THEM. Do not stand dumbly in front of the paper towel dispenser.)
When I walked into Skye’s concert, I was expecting a time of fellowship. A time of worship. A time of joy. I was not expecting to be filled with complete peace. The struggles that had been on my heart for the past few weeks completely evaporated. I was reminded again and deeply of Christ’s rich and abiding love for me. I was reminded that no matter what I might be tempted to think, I am not alone.
There’s something so refreshingly honest about Skye’s music. She’s open and vulnerable. Not only does she sing about deeply personal things, she explains the stories behind them. Often it felt like she was singing to me.
After a few weeks of intense Skye Peterson music listenage, I have settled on a favorite from her songs. It’s called “Searching for Us.” I’d love to write out all of the lyrics and gush over how good they are, but instead I’ll encourage you to give it a listen and really steep yourself and your heart in the words. There is not a line of that song that is not humblingly truthful. I will give you the chorus.
But He’s searching for us from the east to the west
Through the rivers of fire, to the cold wilderness
Like a Father, he loves, like a Shepherd, he seeks
And he’ll never give up till he brings home his sheep again
Does this not fill your heart with so much joy? So much relief? So much thankfulness?
Last weekend I attended a youth retreat with my church. During small group time, we discussed how God created the world even though He knew we would sin. Even though He knew we would break His heart. Even though He knew Jesus would have to die for us. Knowing all of that, He said “let there be light” and “let us make man in our own image” without hesitation. Because He loved us already and wanted to show us just how awesome He is. He was willing to pay the price to make us love Him back.
With that background, Skye’s song is even more precious to me. Not only did Jesus die for me, He’s searching for me. He’s happy to leave the 99 and come find me when I stray from the fold. And He will never give up until He brings me home again.
Skye has an album out called “Searching For Us,” as well as an EP with 6 songs titled “Wonder of It All” and a single that somehow has two sings, “Eventide.” She also sings a couple of songs with the Gettys, and I may have missed one or two of her singles.
YES, YES! SKYE PETERSON FOREVER!! ❣️
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! 😄🤩

Yes! You will love her!
This is such a cool message, Ella Em! Thank you for sharing. And I’m so glad you are feeling Gods love for you 💗
Thanks Stella! ❣️

You should TOTALLY check her out! She’s amazing. 😃
Yes, I also have so much peace when I listen to Skye Peterson! It’s so cool you could meet her!! And I LOVE “Searching for Us!” It is such a good reminder that God is our tender Shepherd and wants a deep relationship with each one of us, no matter the cost. Also, how amazing that He intentionally searches us out, knows our deepest struggles and brokenness, and would still choose to love us! My other favs by Skye are Come to Me and Sandcastles. I can’t wait to see how God uses Skye to share these scriptural truths through her powerful songs! 😊🎶
I couldn’t have said it better myself. 🤗 I’m actually writing a short story/novelette/novella (something like that, I’m not sure what it is yet lol) sort of based off of that idea. YES!!! Those are my two favorites also! Amen! She’s supposed to have another full album coming out soon but I can’t find a date yet so I’m waiting and checking Apple music like crazy. 😂
Yes yes yes, Ella Em!! Inspiring words!!! 🎤❤️
